Our Purpose

Founded in 2019, Leadership Advantage Institute is dedicated to providing skills-based leadership and professional development training to high achieving Black, Hispanic, Native American, and underrepresented students to best position graduates for an entry-level career and further educational purposes.

Objectives

I. Effectively target the opportunity gap between students in underserved communities and their well-represented peers across race, ethnicity, class, and orientation.

II. Ensure students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities matriculate and graduate on-time and be better positioned for graduate school or an entry-level career.

Goals

Develop Leadership Advantage Program (Leadership AP): cost-free, 5 year program supporting college freshmen students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities. This cohort of ethnically diverse individuals receive one-on-one personal and professional development.

Through community partnerships, mentorship, and civic engagement, the organization curates robust educational & developmental programming to supplement learnings from the student’s respective college or university.

Strategies

Education Consultation: partner with freshmen attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities to translate student career goals into majors and outline skillsets required to achieve excellence— navigating college; study abroad; internship strategies.

Personal Development: holistic approach for individuals to promote internal work. Seek to challenge students to understand and develop their identity as well as how their identity is perceived by others. Extensive work with identity markers and Emotional Quotient (EQ).

Professional Development: prepare students including financial literacy, etiquette development, and career coaching, including exposure to Fortune 500 partners, career readiness workshops, and end-to-end internship support.
